Broadcasting and Journalism
Lights, Camera, Action!! Career and Technical Education has come a long way. What was once a program limited to one or two classes in a high school has gotten a glamorous makeover at Cane Ridge High School. Students now have the opportunity to pursue careers in fields that were once reserved for college graduates. One such program is Broadcasting and Journalism, in the Arts and Communications cluster. Tomorrow's producers, directors, camera operators and TV anchors are honing their craft with stateof- the-art equipment in a real television studio. Not only are students getting valuable hands on experience, but they're also learning to work as a team and finding out what it takes to put a live broadcast on the air! The first class in this pathway is Media Concepts which provides a broad view of all media, including television, radio, newspapers and websites. From there, students progress to Electronic Media Production, which focuses on live television production and multi-camera shoots. Finally, Seniors take Electronic Media Management, where they will learn about budgeting and the operations of a television station, as well as exploring some of the latest advances in industry technology. Chris Heiselman is the instructor for Broadcasting and Journalism at Cane Ridge. Mr. Heiselman spent twenty years in radio and television, on air and behind the scenes. Along the way, he was fortunate enough to pick up an Emmy nomination and an Associated Press Award for Best Director in Tennessee. His media experience also extends to the advertising side of the business, where he wrote, produced, directed and edited award-winning commercial and promotional advertisements. Even though our program is still in its infancy, we look forward to a time very soon when we're not only broadcasting live at CRHS, but also producing commercials for many of the great local businesses in our community. We invite you to stop by and see what's going on "behind the scenes" at Cane Ridge Comprehensive High School! |
