The Flight Drill Competition is
held near the end of each
semester in the gym.
Local recruiters will serve as
unbiased judges.
The winning flight will earn a
“Best at Drill” streamer for
their guidon.
Each flight will perform the 30
commands twice, typically, once
by the flight commander and once
by the flight sergeant.
Each flight is required to have
a guidon.
Cadets calling the commands will
be graded on cadence, control of
the flight, military bearing,
and use of voice.
Flights will be graded on
appearance, bearing, execution,
teamwork, and remaining in step.
There will be a three minute
time limit for performing the
30-commands. Anything over three
minutes is a failing grade.
There is no “bonus” for
finishing quickly—it’s not a
race.
The cadet commanding the
flight will salute the head
judge and report in saying,
“Sir/Ma’am, request permission
to use the drill pad.” The judge
will reply, “Permission is
granted,” and return the salute.
The cadet commanding the flight
will then do another about face,
give the command “Fall-In” to
the flight, and proceed with the
30 commands.
The clock starts at command
“Fall-In.”
After the 30 commands have
been completed, the cadet
calling the commands will then
do an about face and salute the
judge and say, “Sir, this
concludes our drill
competition.” The judge will
return the salute, and the timer
is stopped.
The drill pad will be marked
indicating a 75’ x75’ pad.
All cadets must be in
uniform.
No flight will be allowed on
the drill pad while another
flight is performing.
Impartial military members
will serve as the judges.
