Born and raised in Nashville,
TN, Ms. Cathryn Armstrong knew from an early
existence that she was destined to teach. ?Denise?,
as she is affectionately known by her friends,
graduated with Honors from Hume-Fogg High School and
was voted ?Most Memorable? in 1993. In her duration
at Hume-Fogg, Denise participated in INROADS, a
program dedicated to the development of minority
youth in the realm of business leadership.
Additionally, she served as the President of the
S.U.R.E. Club, an acronym for Students United for
Racial Equality, as well as being an active member
of the Spanish and Civitan clubs. From there, Denise
matriculated to Middle Tennessee State University
where she earned a Bachelor?s degree in Business
Finance and a minor in Spanish. There, she was a
member of the Dance team for one year. She is
currently working on obtaining her Master?s degree
and hopes to finish by Summer 2009.
Ms. Armstrong became a member
of the faculty of Antioch High School in August
2001, her first teaching role. In her time there,
she committed herself to countless hours of Math
tutoring and served as one of the advisors for the
Gospel Club and majorettes. In 2004, she joined the
staff of Maplewood High School. As a Math teacher
there, she earned the designee of 2007-2008 Teacher
of the Year. Denise has taught a range of Math from
ELL Math to Algebra II.
As a new ?Ravens? educator,
Ms. Armstrong?s desire is to instill a sense of hope
and drive within her students and to empower them to
be successful leaders.
In her spare time, Denise
enjoys spending time with her magnificent children,
Kia and Chris, ages 12 and 11 respectively,
traveling, dancing, reading and doing Sudokus.
