Deborah Wilbrink was born in
Atlanta, GA. She taught English Language and
Literature courses in several Georgia high schools
before relocating to Nashville in 2003. She also
taught at Nashville’s McMurray Middle School.
Mrs. Wilbrink earned a Bachelor
of Journalism from the University of Georgia, and
gained teaching certification in English, and ELL,
through completing coursework at Columbus State
University in Columbus, Georgia, and Oxford
University, England. In 2007, Mrs. Wilbrink also
became a National Board Certified Teacher in
“English as a New Language” in a stringent,
voluntary certification process. Recently she taught
Spanish business professionals and government
officials in an English immersion program, Pueblo
Ingles, in rural northern Spain. She’s a member
of the national and state Teachers of English to
Speakers of Other Languages professional
organization.
Prior to joining the education
profession Mrs. Wilbrink has enjoyed a varied
career, including that of an award-winning
television news editor and commercial producer;
director of four public historic cemeteries; and
manager of a U. S. Senator’s office. She also
publishes articles about music in national magazines
and e-zines, and writes and performs songs with
guitar.
Tennessee's magnificent
outdoors as well as Nashville's musical and cultural
milieu attracted Mrs. Wilbrink to relocate to Music
City, where in 2006 she married a Dutch citizen,
Evert Wilbrink, a music executive.
Mrs. Wilbrink enjoys outdoor
activities like hiking and canoeing, loves music,
and, according to her husband, is great at 'diverse
cooking'. Her son Brewer is an accountant in
Nashville, and her mother, Carol, is a retired ELL
teacher in Phoenix, AZ.
