Greg Abner was born and raised
in Donelson, Tennessee. He went
to McGavock High School whe re
he
graduated in 1988. He attended
Volunteer State University and M.T.S.U. In 1996, Mr. Abner came
to Glencliff High School where
he taught World Geography and
was an assistant coach on the
football and baseball
team. Coach Abner was the
defensive coordinator starting
in 1998, when the Colts were
undefeated during the regular
season. He then helped the Colts
to the state championship in
1999. In 2002, Coach Abner was
named the head coach at Hunters
Lane High School where they went
5-5 and lost to Brentwood High
School (state champions) in the
playoffs by 3 points. In
2003, he returned to Glencliff
as the head coach and took the
team to a 5-5 season (they were
0-10 the season before) and
to the playoffs. He coached at
Glencliff until 2008 when he was
named the head coach at Cane
Ridge High School.
During his 11 years as a
teacher and a coach, Coach Abner has helped in
the education and transformation
of many young people. He has
assisted many graduates in their
pursuit of a college degree and
has also helped over 20 players
to receive athletic scholarships
to several universities. Coach
Abner has also coached 2 players
who are playing professional
football today. (Tim Dobbins-San
Diego Chargers and C.J.
Johnson-Chicago Rush).
In addition to his coaching
duties, Coach Abner will be
teaching geography.
