Jacob Maurer is a native of Decatur, Alabama. He graduated from Decatur High School in 2000, where he was a member of the all-state band, head drum major, and was an award-winning soloist on horn, trumpet, and euphonium. Mr. Maurer graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. At UAB, he was a member of the marching band, wind symphony, and basketball pep band. While in college, he also served as State President of the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference for two years. As the son of a band director, he grew up watching band programs develop. During college while working with his father, he served as marching band coordinator at Carbon Hill High School where the band grew from only five members to thirty in just one year, receiving superior ratings at all competitions attended. After graduation, he became band director at Westwood High School in Fort Pierce, FL, where the band received all superior ratings for the first time in nearly twenty years. Upon returning to Alabama, he served as band director at Oakman High School where the band consistently received superior ratings in both marching and concert band for the first time in school history. Many of his students have placed in all-state and all-district bands, along with receiving scholarship money for their talents. He has been actively involved in presenting clinics to future music educators. His articles have appeared in Ala Breve magazine. In his spare time, Mr. Maurer enjoys reading, soccer, history, SEC football, trying new restaurants, movies, and vintage videogames. With his belief in hard-work, determination, and thorough enjoyment of the band experience, he has high aspirations for the band program at Cane Ridge. |
