Kathie H. Reynolds is a native of Charlotte, NC. She graduated magna cum laude from Furman University, Greenville, SC with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. She received the Spanish award her Senior year and was inducted into Sigma Delta Pi, National Honor Society and Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education. She received her Master of Education from Union College in Barbourville, KY.
Mrs. Reynolds spent a year of intensive language study in San Jose, Costa Rica at the Instituto del Lenguaje Espanol. She has travelled extensively in Central America where she lived for 12 years teaching pedagogy and English as a second language, translating and taking part in social ministries. Her love for Spanish and the Latin culture was deepened during her years working in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Her teaching experience began in South Carolina and includes private and public schools in North Carolina, Kentucky and Honduras. She is AP certified and has taught all levels of Spanish I-V as well as Spanish at Alice Lloyd College, Kentucky. She has sponsored Spanish clubs and founded a chapter of the Sociedad Honor??ria Hisp??nica (honor society for high school students of Spanish) at Hazard HS in Hazard, KY. In Hazard she also founded and sponsored ???Kids to Kids???, a program to involve high school students in teaching Spanish to kindergarteners.
As a teacher of Spanish she believes that understanding and experiencing the culture goes hand in hand with mastering the language. Her goal is to provide learning experiences of a superior quality to prepare students to be critical and creative thinkers who are able to meet lifes challenges, today and tomorrow. She encourages them to be life-long seekers of knowledge who strive for excellence so that they may live more meaningful lives for themselves and their community.
Mrs. Reynolds is married with two sons and four grandchildren. Her hobbies are reading, travel and spending time with friends and family. She is very happy to be a part of the Cane Ridge family and is looking forward to an exciting school year.
