| Lt Col Fink
graduated from Huntington North High School in
Indiana in 1977 and was awarded a four-year Air
Force ROTC scholarship to the University of Notre
Dame. In 1981, he received a Bachelor of Science
degree in Civil Engineering and was commissioned a
second lieutenant. While at Notre Dame, he was a
member of the varsity swim team.
His first military assignment
was as a civil engineering officer at Holloman Air
Force Base in New Mexico. It was there that he met
his wife, Maria. They now have a 22-year-old
daughter named Jackie and an18-year-old son named
Brian.
In 1985, he went back to
school to earn a Master of Science degree in
Structural Engineering at the University of Texas.
Upon graduating in 1987, he was assigned as an
Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at the Air
Force Institute of Technology in Ohio. After a
couple more engineering assignments, Lt Col Fink's
final Assignment was as the 103rd Support
Group Commander in Connecticut.
Lt Col Fink was the Armed
Forces’ national triathlon champion (swim/bike/run
events) many times, and he has won over 100
multisport races. He has represented the United
States Military in many international competitions,
allowing him to travel the world for various races.
In 2000, at the age of 41, Lt Col Fink was still the
top American military finisher in the Hawaiian
Ironman World Championship. After more than 20
years of service, Lt Col Fink retired from the Air
Force in 2001.
This is Lt Col Fink’s ninth
year teaching JROTC. He is excited about opening
the unit at Cane Ridge High School, and he looks
forward to an exciting year. What he especially
enjoys about the program is the opportunity to
witness his students’ personal growth in maturity,
self-confidence, and leadership abilities.
